Bringing back the Greater Horseshoe Bat to SE England

In progress

We are working with the Vincent Wildlife Trust on a ground-breaking conservation effort to support the reintroduction of the Greater Horseshoe Bat into South East England.  Historically a very common species in the British Isles, Greater Horseshoe Bat numbers plummeted in the last century due to changes in farming practices and environmental erosion.  A maternity colony has been found in a farm building in Sussex and the building has been purchased through fundraising.

Further funds are needed to adapt the building for its new important purpose. It is hoped the site will become a staging post for further colonies in the Southeast.  The return of this precious species is a very positive and exciting development for biodiversity restoration in England.
