Eagles and birdies in Sussex Golf
Last week, we had the pleasure of organising our third Nature Links seminar on nature restoration in Sussex golf, kindly hosted by Brighton & Hove Golf Club. Over 50 dedicated greenkeepers, club managers, ecologists and conservationists from across the county came together to discuss the pioneering work underway on courses in Sussex and the essential contribution they are making towards nature recovery.
We were delighted to be joined by leaders of stellar Sussex nature recovery initiatives Weald to Waves and Sussex Bay®, strategists for the Sussex Local Nature Recovery Strategy, England Golf, and a host of nature specialists from South Downs National Park Authority, Natural England, Buglife and RSPB. The day was filled with inspiring conversations and powerful case studies that highlighted the significant impact golf clubs can have in addressing the biodiversity crisis.
We particularly wanted to recognise and share the work being carried out by dedicated greenkeepers and club managers to protect and restore nature on their courses, helping build connections and sharing best practice and lessons learnt. The sense of common cause was palpable, with one participant describing the day as “inspirational and energising”. It is a pleasure to work with such dedicated people and exciting to see the nature restoration work happening in Sussex golf. We look forward to our continued collaboration and playing a role in helping it go from strength to strength.
